As the story goes, Higie was born in England and one day set out on a boat across the Atlantic to come to America in search of the American dream. For Higie the American dream was to open up a saloon where all types of people could come in to have a cold drink, a great bite to eat, and a good time! When Higie arrived he found a farm to work on while he saved to make his dream come true. Since America is the land of opportunity, Higie soon found himself a chance to make his dream come true even faster bootlegging alcohol from Canada to the U.S.! Higie has since retired from bootlegging and Higie’s Iron Horse Saloon has been built in his honor. Higie’s Iron Horse Saloon, a pub style place with a Cajun flare, is conveniently located at 2721 Brewerton Road in Mattydale.
